What Does Myla Mean?

The name Myla means "soldier" and "merciful." It is a variation of Mila and the feminine version of Milo or Myles. Some view the name as a modern invention that has its roots in the Norman French. It could also be considered a diminutive of Michael or inspired by the Latin word “miles” meaning “soldier.”

Myla has also been viewed as a contemporary version of Myra, a popular name in the U.S. between 1880 and 1950 of Sanskrit origins meaning "sweet, admirable, and extraordinary." The ‘my’ in Myla offers a sort of endearingly possessive quality to this pretty, understated, and simplistic name.

  • Gender: Myla is most commonly a girl’s name, with the masculine version being Myles or Milo.
  • Pronunciation: My-Luh
