Cheryl Bird, RN, BSN, is a former writer for Verywell Family covering premature babies. She is a full-time NICU nurse. She works in a 20-bed tertiary level NICU at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia, caring for premature infants and sick full-term babies. She works with nonsurgical infants at all levels of wellness, including infants on ventilators, with central and umbilical IV lines, and more.
Cheryl is a registered nurse in the state of Virginia. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mary Washington College, and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Old Dominion University. She is certified in Neonatal Intensive Care by the National Certification Corporation.
I love my work in the NICU. I have learned so much about strength and survivorship from the babies I've worked with and their loved ones. To work with preemies is a gift, and I am grateful to the families who have shared their precious babies with the NICU staff.
