Double strollers are an essential item for parents of twins or of two young kids close in age. Tandem (or in-line) strollers tend to offer more seat flexibility than side-by-side strollers. Many tandem strollers allow you to set up the stroller seats in a variety of ways—from front-facing to rear-facing, one of each, or even allowing you to remove one of the seats when you wish.

If possible, try to find a tandem stroller with a good return policy so you can take it for a test drive before committing. While they are more narrow than double-wide side-by-side strollers, some are much longer than standard strollers, making them harder to maneuver. For many parents, the flexible seating options will outweigh any movement issues.

Here are the best tandem double strollers for all your needs.

Our Top Picks

Best Overall: Contours Options Elite Tandem Stroller

This tandem stroller provides so many of the benefits of pricier strollers, but at a reasonable price point. At 34 pounds, it’s certainly a heavy stroller, but it has a lot of great features. The stroller boasts seven different seating configurations, and both of the seats can easily be moved around. For example, both can rear or forward face, both can face each other, or both can face away from each other. Or, you can use just one seat and use the extra room for shopping excursions (or anything else).

Each seat holds up to 40 pounds and comes with a five-point harness and infant headrest. Doable for twins, the stroller can accommodate two infant seats at once but only one bassinet (sold separately) can be used at once. Outfitted with a universal adapter, it works with eight major car seat brands including Chicco, Cybex, Graco and more, deeming it a stroller that works from newborns to toddlers.

Best Splurge: Baby Jogger City Select

A stylish stroller, this ride has many easy-to-configure seat setups that work just as well for one newborn or up to three kids. For newborns, this stroller accepts two infant car seats or two bassinets. For any car seat, you’ll need to purchase a brand-specific adaptor (or two).

The identical seats hold up to 45 pounds each and have a kid-proof five-point harness and four-position adjustable footrest. There are over 16 configurations for how parents can set up this versatile stroller. The rugged foam-filled tires never need to be inflated and offer a smooth ride.

While the stroller has a lot of space and flexibility, some parents find that it’s very long, so it can be a bit cumbersome to push around. Despite its brand name, this stroller is not meant for running or jogging.

Best Budget: Chicco Bravofor2 Double Stroller

This versatile stroller gives you room for two at a much more affordable price point. For infants, the front seat folds forward to hold KeyFit or Fit2 infant car seats (sold separately) and the five-point harness seat holds babies from 6 months up to 40 pounds. The back seat has a three-point harness and can work as either a rear-facing seat or a forward facing platform for big kiddos to stand, complete with easy-grip handles and a padded backrest for comfort.

Older kids have the option to sit or stand while you stroll. This stroller won’t accommodate newborn twins, but it is an affordable option for families with a baby and a toddler.

Best Easy Storage: Britax B-Ready G3

An all-terrain stroller that can easily convert from a single to a tandem double. While this stroller folds extremely flat, even as a double, it is nearly 35 pounds, so also quite heavy. The one-step fold allows parents to keep both seats on, which is very rare in the world of tandem strollers. The stroller has 12 positions to configure the seats and does take two infant car seats (adapters needed, if the car seats are not Britax).

If parents choose to use the two-seat option, keep in mind that they are not identical seats. The main stroller seat allows for up to 55 pounds. The second seat (sold separately) can hold a kiddo up to 35 pounds, so it’s not an ideal stroller option for twins. Both seats have a five-point harness and four-position recline. This stroller is easy to store, but heavy to move around, so think about how you’ll plan to use it.

Easiest to Maneuver: Contours Curve Tandem Double Stroller

Moving around is a breeze in this tandem double stroller. The secret is six wheels instead of the standard four wheels, giving it unprecedented maneuverability and a tight-turn radius for navigating busy streets and compact spaces. Forget struggling on sidewalk curbs, the curb-assist feature enhances the leverage of the stroller, so even at 39 pounds (just the stroller), it’s not a beast to lift up onto a curb.

The stroller is great for twins, since it accommodates two infant car seats, as long as the appropriate adapter (sold separately) is installed. The stroller seats each have a five-point harness, three-position seat recline, and can accommodate 40 pounds per seat. Each seat is made with water-resistant fabric and comes with SPF 50+ canopies with peek-a-boo windows.

If you live in a hilly area or are navigating lots of crowded city streets, this could be the tandem stroller for you.

Best for All Terrain: Mountain Buggy Plus One

Tandem double strollers are not meant for jogging. If you are looking for a double jogging stroller, there are many side-by-side options. Knowing that, there are some tandem strollers that are “all-terrain” and can be used on trails, for power walking, or other sportier strolls. The Mountain Buggy Plus One can be used as a single or double stroller.

As a double, it has a unique seating arrangement. The front seat must go into upright mode and then the back seat gets fully reclined. Insert the included “infant mattress” for babies up to 6 months or replace it with the second toddler seat after that. With an infant in the back, the older child cannot recline, so if the goal is napping, this might not be right for you.

Another drawback is the maximum weight capacity. As a single stroller, the max weight is 55 pounds and as a double, it’s 44 pounds. Depending on the age of your kids, this limit might present some challenges. However, for many parents, the reasonable price tag and durable design outweigh these limitations.

Best Sit and Stand: Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite Stroller

Aptly named, sit-and-stand strollers are tandem strollers with a regular seat in the front and a standing platform and/or small bench seat in the back for older kids. They are perfect for older children who can walk on their own, be independent, and may enjoy a stroller ride once in a while. The sweet spot for older kids to use this stroller is between 3 and 5-years old.

The Joovy Caboose Ultralight has a 90-pound weight capacity but only weighs 22 pounds. It’s car seat compatible with most leading brands, perfect for the newborn stage. Parents love the big storage basket and canopy that covers both seats. While helpful, this is not an all-terrain or super maneuverable stroller.

A sit-and-stand may not be the best option for long walks on bumpy terrain, or for an older child who will be in the stroller for long periods of time but is super useful for errands or a day at the zoo.
