What is the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale?

Nordstrom doesn’t have very many sitewide sales during the year, but the highly anticipated Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is one of their biggest. The sale is a great opportunity to get up to 50 percent off women, men, and children’s apparel, home goods, and more.  

"I know from experience from working with Nordstrom and a lot of the brands involved that you can usually score some really good deals on car seats and strollers during this, and discounts on gear are exceedingly rare," says Jamie Grayson, baby gear expert. "So if you are looking to save money and still get higher in the baby products, this is when you want to do it."

When is the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale 2021?

The sale will run from May 26 through June 6, 2021. Like its name suggests, the Half Yearly sale takes place twice a year, once in the spring and once in late fall.

How Long is the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale?

This year's sale is 12 days. Last year the spring sale ran for 10 days, but the length has varied from year to year. In general, it runs somewhere between eight to 12 days, though the best deals are always at the start of the sale. Items tend to sell out, so if you know you want something, bookmark it.

Does Nordstrom Rack Also Participate in the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale?

No, Nordstrom Rack does not usually do the Half Yearly Sale, but they do hold sale events roughly once a month for around two to five days.

What's the Difference Between the Half Yearly Sale and the Anniversary Sale?

Unlike the Half Yearly Sale, Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is only held once a year. The Anniversary Sale is the retailer’s big summer sale and generally offers the best discounts all year on designer goods. This year, the Anniversary Sale is going to be held in July.

The Anniversary Sale also has discounts on newly released designs, not just the styles that are on their way out. The Half Yearly Sale, meanwhile, will generally offer discounts on more seasonal items, not the newest arrivals. 

Another difference between the two sales is that the Anniversary sale usually lets you preview the sales in advance and it lets people with the Nordstrom card shop the sale early. 

What Usually Goes on Sale?

There are a variety of products that usually go on sale during the Half Yearly Sale, including:

• Apparel—As a retailer known for their fashion apparel, it’s probably no surprise that you can score some pretty great deals on clothes, but it's more than women’s clothes that go on sale. You’ll be able to find maternity wear, men’s clothes, kids essentials, and adorable baby outfits. You can also find discounts on shoes for the whole family. Some brands to look for include Levi’s, The North Face, Pippa & Julie, Barefoot Dreams, Zella, Steve Madden, and Ugg.
• Car Seats and Strollers—Strollers, car seats, and combos of the two have gone on sale during past Half Yearly sales. So if you’re looking at baby gear brands that tend to run a little higher (such as Nuna, Maxi-Cosi, or Thule), this is your chance to buy the item at a good discount. 

• Baby Registry Essentials—Baby accessories and toys are often discounted, so it’s a great time to shop for high chairs, tummy-time play mats, teethers, diaper bags, swaddles, hooded towels, and more. You’ll likely be able to find discounts on brands such as Little Giraffe, Ju Ju Be, Mary Meyer, and Stokke.
• Home Products—Bath accessories, bedding, home and nursery decor, kitchen bakeware, suitcases, and even pet essentials have been known to go on sale during the Half Yearly sale. Brands to look for include Diptyque, Jo Malone, Nambe, and Apotheke.
