When is Amazon Prime Day 2022? Amazon Prime Day 2022 started at 12 AM PDT on Tuesday, July 12, and ended at 11:59 PM PDT on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Prime Day dates vary from year to year. It became a two-day event for the first time in July 2019, when sales beat that year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, so expect it to be two days once again, with some great deals happening before and after those days as well. What Is Amazon Prime Day? Amazon’s Prime Day started in July 2015 to commemorate 20 years of Amazon and 10 years since Prime membership began. Outside of Black Friday, it’s one of the biggest deal days of the year, when prices sometimes drop to levels even lower than Black Friday or Cyber Monday. “[You’ll find] discounts up to 30% off on items like cleaning and laundry supplies, up to 50% off children's books, party supplies like a 100-pack of plastic cups for $5, trash bags, toys, and more,” says Julie Ramhold, Consumer Analyst with DealNews.com. You do need an Amazon Prime membership to participate, but if you’re not a member, you can start a 30-day trial just in time, and pay $14.99 a month later to get more deals all year. How Can I Find the Best Deals? “It's not just electronics, fitness trackers, and Amazon devices that have great deals on Prime Day,” says Ramhold. You can expect steep discounts in dozens of product categories, like toys, Instant Pots, air fryer, clothing, and shoes for the whole family, plus household items. “[In 2020] we saw a Vitamix 64-oz. blender for $280, which matched Black Friday prices and was again the lowest price we'd seen at the time,” says Ramhold. “We saw an Instant Pot 6-quart smart WiFi model bundled with a then-current Echo Dot for $89—it was the best price for the cooker we'd seen at the time and included the smart device as well.” We also recommend keeping an eye out for sharp price drops in everyday bulk items you’ll need. “Look for things like pantry items on sale, including snacks like gummy bears (a 65-pack of 0.8-oz bags for $12),” says Ramhold, “protein bars multi-packs that work out to 67 cents per bar, 48-packs of single-serve cereal for $9, 20% off Amazon brand food and drink, and more.” What Other Brands Have Sales Around Prime Day? Other brands have always gotten in on Amazon’s fun and don’t want to be upstaged. Look for savings at Brooklinen, Dyson, and Macy's. Plus, check out Wayfair and Walmart's competing Prime Day Sales. None of those need a membership to shop, and many will match the prices and shipping speeds you find on Amazon.
