Toddlers Everyday Care Potty Training BabyBjörn Potty Chair vs. BabyBjörn Smart Potty: Which Is Right for You? Introducing a child to the potty is a big step, so ensuring your kiddo is ready with all the proper skills is key to successful potty training. Part of preparing for the big milestone is finding a reliable, easy-to-use, and (perhaps most importantly for parents and caregivers) easy-to-clean potty chair. We had 11 kiddos test 22 potty chairs and seats in the comfort of their home (with help from their adults) and among the potty chairs we love most for tiny tushes were the BabyBjörn Smart Potty (our Best Overall choice) the BabyBjörn Potty Chair (Best Design). While our little testers had to do the (ahem) dirty work, their parents and caregivers were nearby to help us determine several factors, like the ease of cleaning, stability, design, and overall value. We wanted to find comfortable potty chairs for potty training with little work for the adults. We’re breaking down how the BabyBjörn Potty Chair and Smart Potty performed during our real-world testing and which one might be right for your household. This potty chair is a durable, easy-to-clean, and comfortable spot for kiddos to use before transitioning to an adult-sized toilet. Its tall back makes it ideal for home use while providing children with the support they need. It’s ideal for keeping in a bathroom at home, thanks to its anti-slip material on the base for extra stability. The high back provides additional support for kiddos, while parents and caregivers will appreciate the removable inner potty for quick and easy cleaning. A bonus you wouldn’t expect? The brand’s adorable bear logo is sure to be a fun addition for little ones going on the potty. BabyBjörn Smart Potty 5 Amazon View On Amazon View On Nordstrom View On Babylist.com Our Ratings Stability 5/5 Ease of Cleaning 5/5 Design 5/5 Value 5/5 Price at time of publication: $25 Who It’s For: We also tested the BabyBjörn Smart Potty, which features a similar design to the BabyBjörn Potty Chair, but with a smaller footprint (10 x 13 x 6.5 inches). It passed every category with flying colors during testing and earned the top spot on our list. Although there is no high backrest, this potty chair features the same cozy, contoured seat for small behinds and the brand’s adorable bear logo. Design and Features The BabyBjörn Potty Chair was an absolute hit with our tester, who loved the “chic,” stable design of the potty. Measuring 14.5 x 14 x 12.5 inches, this potty chair features a high backrest and rounded edges to provide children with a comfortable and supportive spot for their back and bums. The high backrest extends to the sides far enough to support kids’ arms if they want to sit back and go at their own pace. A charming bear—the brand’s notorious logo—stood out to our tester’s child, who dubbed the chair her “bear potty.” While the dusty pink color was a cute addition to the family’s bathroom, the company offers several other colors, such as deep green, powder yellow, and white. Plus, the tall splash guard prevents accidents or splash-backs from escaping the potty during use. Aesthetics weren’t the most important attribute for our Smart Potty tester, who was mostly relieved that it “wasn't off putting or too annoying” to fit in with the rest of her home decor. She did appreciate that this potty has a “low profile,” though. “It’s low to the ground to work with short little legs and can handle the ‘back up’ into it,” she said. Stability The BabyBjörn Potty Chair and BabyBjörn Smart Potty have rubber strips on the bases to maintain stability. “It is both heavy enough not to move when my kid sits in it but light enough that I can also easily move it between rooms and clean it,” said our tester of the BabyBjörn Potty Chair. The BabyBjörn Smart Potty features the same sturdy material, with our tester praising how solid and sturdy the chair felt. “This potty is solid,” she said. Ease of Cleaning A potty chair that’s easy to clean is priceless for parents and caregivers, which is why we appreciate the removable inner potty for both BabyBjörn potty chairs that make clean-up a breeze. Most of the time, all you need to do is dump the contents of the potty into the toilet and then rinse it. As for the potty chairs themselves, the plastic material cleans up easily with the quick wipe of a damp cloth, while you can also use stronger cleaning products when necessary. Portability The amount of portability you need in a potty chair depends on your family and where you plan on using it. The large size of the BabyBjörn Potty Chair makes it great for keeping at home but not so much for travel. The BabyBjörn Smart Potty is compact but doesn’t fold for potty training on the go. However, both potty chairs have an open slot in the back that acts as a handle for easy portability from room to room. How Much Do BabyBjörn Potty Chairs Cost? At $30, BabyBjörn Potty Chair is slightly more than the BabyBjörn Smart Potty ($25). Neither is much more expensive than our budget pick, the Skip Hop 3-in-1 Potty Training Toilet, which is $20. The reliable brand name, supportive design, and easy-to-clean removable potty make this a solid investment for families looking for a potty chair that will last through more than one kid. How We Tested We tested 22 potty chairs with toddlers and parents in the comfort of their homes, assessing each on several criteria, like design, ease of cleaning, stability, and overall value. First, we set the potty chairs up according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and took notes on size by evaluating how much space was needed to accommodate each potty chair. Next, our testers introduced their children to the potty chairs to discover their first reactions. We asked testers to jot down any issues or successes they encountered with the potty chair’s stability or overall design. Once their child used the potty chair, the adults cleaned each seat to determine the ease of cleaning. After testing, we realized we equally love the BabyBjörn Potty Chair and BabyBjörn Smart Potty. The Competition While we loved both BabyBjörn potty chairs, the best option for your family is one that fits your lifestyle most. Some of the others that made our list include: Summer Infant Travel Potty Deluxe: For families looking for a travel potty chair, the Summer Infant Travel Potty Deluxe takes up very little space and folds up to take on the road. The two-in-one design (potty chair and insert) provides two modes of use at a low price of just $23. Bemis NextStep2 Children's Potty Training Toilet Seat: If you lack the space for a standard potty chair, the Bemis NextStep2 Children’s Potty Seat is a near-perfect addition to your bathroom. It’s an adult-sized toilet seat with a child-sized seat hidden inside that pops down when needed. The $67 cost is an investment, but you won’t need to store an additional potty. It’s also one less transition for your kid to make and one less toilet to clean. BabyBjörn Toilet Trainer: In addition to the company’s potty chairs, the brand also makes a toilet insert with a sleek design to fit in with any home style. An adjustable dial allows for a secure fit, while the inward-facing splash guard prevents messes. At $35, it’s the priciest of BabyBjörn’s potty gear, but it’s so lightweight and easy to use, you’ll be glad you spent the extra money for a secure toilet insert. Final Verdict The BabyBjörn Potty Chair and Smart Potty both feature great designs for kiddos and their grown-ups. It’s up to you whether you value the extra support of the Potty Chair or the compact size of the Smart Potty.
