The name Jayden, which only came into use in the early to mid-1990s, has rapidly become one of the most popular baby names within the past two decades. Mainly given as a boys' name, Jayden also has appeared on the list of most popular girls' names as well.

Current baby name charts show multiple spelling variations, with Jaden being the most common. Some may be pronounced slightly differently and others include Jaden, Jaiden, Jaydon, Jadon, Jaidyn, Jaydin, and Jaydan.

Popularity of Jayden

The name Jayden, including its various spellings, is still a young person's name. Unlike other popular baby boy names like JacobMichael, and James, which have been around for over a thousand years, Jayden only first began appearing on name charts in 1994. In the U.S., Jayden was ranked number 20 on the list of popular baby names for the first decade of the 21st century, between the years 2000-2009. And by 2010, the name Jayden rose to the number four position. Since it is such a new name, this recent popularity is not enough to push Jayden into the ranks of the Top 100 Names of the Past Century.

The name Jayden is not as popular worldwide as it is in the United States. In 2016, Jayden ranked as the 25th most popular boys' name in Canada, the 39th in Australia, and has not made it into the top 100 in other countries.

Jayden Origin

According to some sources, Jayden may have evolved from the Old Testament name Jadon, which means "thankful" or "he will judge" or "God is heard." There are two characters named Jadon who appear in the Old Testament. One was a builder of the wall of Jerusalem, mentioned in the book of Nehemiah, and the other was a prophet mentioned in the book of Kings. The name Jadon in the Old Testament may be pronounced JAH-dən rather than JAY-den.

There are no other notable literary sources or historical figures with the name Jayden.
