The Pinewood Derby is one of the most exciting events of the year for Cub Scouts across the nation.  The boys start with a simple block of wood and an idea. Then it's off to work with an adult to turn the wooden block into the idea.

Donald Murphy, the founder of the Pinewood Derby, said, "I wanted to devise a wholesome, constructive activity that would foster a closer father-son relationship and promote craftsmanship and good sportsmanship through competition." 

Since 1953, boys and their parents have been building stronger bonds while they design, cut, sand, paint and weigh their Pinewood Derby car. It's estimated that over 50 million kids have built a Pinewood Derby Car.

This sleek pink Pinewood Derby car was probably built by the sister of a Cub Scout since pink isn't the most popular color for little boys!

In addition to all sorts of pink race cars, shoes, lipstick tubes, and rainbow cars can be found at Pinewood Derbies.

Many packs have a sibling class so that their brothers and sisters can make and race their own Pinewood Derby cars.

Described as "a cross between a skateboard and a snowboard," caster boards such as the Razor RipStik are popular, so it's no surprise that someone made a Pinewood Derby car version of one.
