You are 15 weeks pregnant. How are you doing? Settling in to enjoying the second trimester?

The baby completed its wild sprint in the first trimester and got a lot done. While you would think it might kick back and take some time off in this second trimester, there are a lot of changes coming, other than simply getting bigger. The placenta just took over production of the pregnancy sustaining hormones a few weeks ago, which is a huge deal.

Your baby is also working on subtle details that make a huge different like breathing and hearing, neural development and more. So while you might feel better and are taking a bit of a break from some of the hard work of pregnancy, your baby isn't.

The good news is that you have some fun things coming in the second trimester. You will likely feel your baby move for the first time, you've probably already heard the galloping hoof beats that make up your baby's heartbeat, in a few short weeks you might even decide to find out if you're having a baby girl or boy.

About 80+% of families do decide to find out at some point in pregnancy, you might be surprised at the ways they find out of the way they share. There has been a big surge in gender reveal parties. I would encourage you to think about all of your options before going with what everyone else is doing. While it might be okay - you never know what would really speak to you unless you try it.

Some families choose to keep it a secret, even though they know. Some chose not to name the baby publically, even if they do announce that they are having a girl or a boy. You might choose to take home a sealed envelope with the contents sealed until you and your partner decide to open it together in a private dinner or at a big party. Live it up and do it your way!

So sit back and enjoy week 15 - you have fun stuff to look forward to and a relatively quiet period pregnancy symptoms wise. How will you spend the week?

This is one of my absolute most favorite ultrasound photos ever. This 3D sonogram has a smiling baby at 15 weeks of pregnancy. And not even smiling, but grinning from ear to ear. You can't help but smile when you see this photo and I can only imagine the joy that it brings the parents.

At 15 weeks pregnant, you've left the first trimester behind. Your baby has grown enough to stretch the uterus out of the pelvis, meaning you may actually be seeing your belly start to nudge out, even if you can only tell when you're naked. It's still a fun secret to have with your partner.

A profile shot is always a good photo in pregnancy ultrasounds. It's sort of standard, but with that brings the comfort of knowing everything is going well.

3D ultrasound may be neat to look at but it doesn't provide much more details, if any to your doctor or midwife. That doesn't mean that people don't like to look at it, but, if you find yourself feeling a bit turned off by how it looks - that's okay too.
